CMC VELLORE CPD TEAMS

After 6 months in Vellore, Team 1 returned safely to CHC just in time for Christmas. They are now working to educate the rest of the staff with the knowledge they gained in CMC and have many new ideas for Maternal Care and teaching to put into practice at CHC. Team 2 (1 doctor and 3 nurses) left for Vellore in early January and have settled in well. At last we have received temporary registration for the nurses from Tamil Nadu Nursing Council –a problem for Team 1) so they can participate fully in clinical patient care and training. Three members of Team 2 will focus on Paediatric & Neonatal care, and one is seconded to the Emergency Department to learn about all types of emergencies and trauma patients. We look forward to hearing about their experiences in due course

CPD is our top priority at CHC now. We want to send a 3rd team in July and more in 2011 – but we need more funds. The programme is expensive (approximately US$2,250 per person for 6 months) and without external support we will not be able to maintain it. If you can help please email us directly at Director@christianhospitalchandraghona.com or contact BMS World Mission (UK) to find out how to donate.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE HOSPITAL CHAPEL

Construction of the new chapel continues but at a slower rate than we would like. As you can see from the photos, the structure now has one floor but we hope the whole building will be completed by the end of April. The last two photos show what the finished Chapel should look like. Keep watching this page!

COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMMES

We are delighted that we have received continuing funding for both of our CHP programmes for 2010 onwards. We thank Operation Agri for their continued support to CHP-1 in Kodamtali, and EED-SIMAVI for renewing a further 3 years funding to CHP-2 in Kaptai. The latter will allow us to extend coverage into the 2 remaining unions in Kaptai. We are now starting the recruitment and training process for the new BMWs required, and hope they will be fully functional by the middle of 2010.

OTHER DONATIONS

We are grateful to the Government of Japan for supporting the purchase of new equipment to upgrade essential services in 2010. This will include the OT as well as other areas, but we have to wait for government clearance from the NGO Bureau. We are also looking forward to the delivery of 24 new hospital beds, kindly donated to us by the Rotary Clubs of Shin-Osaka, Japan and Chung-Shing, Taipei.

SUCCESS OF WEBSITE

Lastly we want to thank everyone who has written to us about this website. Thank you for all your positive comments and constructive suggestions. We are pleased that the website has triggered some contacts from people who have family connections with Chandraghona from long ago, and we look forward to welcoming some of you to CHC in 2010-11.
